Prepare to have Russell, Noodle, 2D, and Murdoc practically loom over you.
Gorillaz released a brand-new song, “Skinny Ape,” and they also revealed two upcoming virtual concerts in London and New York.
The song, which you can hear below, follows “Baby Queen,” “New Gold,” and “Possession Island” as the fourth to be included on the upcoming new album “Cracker Island.”

You can pre-order their new album here; it will be released on February 24, 2023, through Parlophone.
In the meanwhile, the animated band will perform two virtual performances of their brand-new hit in Times Square on December 17 at 2:30 PM local time and Piccadilly Circus on December 18 at 2:00 PM GMT.
You can watch teaser video below. According to a press release, the concerts will let fans watch Gorillaz “play in real life as Murdoc, 2D, Noodle and Russel literally tower over them, playing in the middle of two of the world’s most iconic skylines.”
The “Skinny Ape” performances, which use Google’s ARCore Geospatial API to turn public settings into virtual performances, have been developed by Nexus Studios and are directed by artist and Gorillaz co-creator Jamie Hewlett and Emmy-nominated filmmaker Fx Goby.
Get ready for the biggest Times Square takeover since that other gorilla destroyed the area, all of our supporters. Actually bigger because there are four of us. Put on your pink robes and come see Gorillaz like you’ve never seen us before thanks to the Google techies who helped us create the music video event of the century. The time has come! ” stated bassist Murdoc.
The cartoon band has a long list of collaborators lined up for “Cracker Island,” their eighth studio album, including Tame Impala, Bootie Brown, Bad Bunny, Stevie Nicks, and more.
